Now, if you listen to that recording published by the Constitutional Court, you really feel in great difficulty, thinking that these are the people who judge and dispense justice, the thread of logic of those who faced the Constitutional Court, leaves much to be desired...
Prime Minister Edi Rama started the day with an attack on the judiciary, referring to the request to the Constitutional Court of two judges' associations for a salary increase.
In a video message on social media, Rama raises the question of how judges can increase their salaries from 2,000 to 3,000 Euros per month!
Rama states that judges' salaries today are the same as judges' salaries in Greece and twice as high as in North Macedonia and Montenegro.
In his video message, Rama mocks those who addressed the Constitutional Court, emphasizing that the logic of those demanding a salary increase leaves much to be desired. Rama stated that through this new request for a salary increase, the cost to the state budget is a full 37 million euros, while adding that as time is showing, "judges and prosecutors have turned into our own god and our own stick."
The Prime Minister also had a warning for the Constitutional Court, which he said he hoped would not approve such a request, as otherwise it would force the Government and the majority to find other remedies.
" The Constitutional Court published a few days ago the recording of the session where judges, two associations of judges, and those with unregistered legal problems, nevertheless, requested the Constitutional Court to increase their salaries.
Now, if you listen to that recording published by the Constitutional Court, you really feel in great difficulty, thinking that these are the people who judge and dispense justice, the thread of logic of those who faced the Constitutional Court, leaves much to be desired.
It's not a matter of individuals, but here's how one speaks, I'm a career judge, I understand politics, social life, everything. The Prime Minister's side anathemaed, anathemaed the idea that these people could use their power to trample on the other two branches of government.
I thought about this, that we are also smart. I made the request personally. He tells the judge, I said let's do this work secretly, the government had in mind the elections, not us, to take another 37 million euros from Albanians' taxes. The trial is a trial, after all, he says, that if others are and are not, the rest of us who are in many other jobs, the judges are the master and the stick. We are aware, he says, of the level of executive power, of democracy.
"What level of democracy is the judge making such irony? I want everyone to know that the truth is that in Albania, the salaries of judges today are the same as the salaries of judges in Greece, an EU country, and twice the salaries of judges in Macedonia and Montenegro ," the Prime Minister said.
He further emphasized that the increase in salaries, moving judges and prosecutors up the pyramid of the country's salary structure, which he considered "super-salaries."
"What the judges are asking for is about a 1,800 euro increase for first instance judges, a 2,000 euro increase for appeal judges, a 3,000 euro increase for SPAK, BKH judges, etc.
SPAK has not joined this absurd initiative and deserves respect. The judges want to impose themselves on the Parliament, on the government, on the other two branches of government and want to receive salaries according to their opinion. Meanwhile, another says why don't you take into account that we also make lek", emphasized Rama.
Referring to the requests filed with the Constitutional Court by judges' associations, the Prime Minister has presented passages that he considers to be very strange.
" If others are and it's not us who are voted for or others are in other jobs where they perform, the judges are the ones who
I want everyone to know that the truth is that in Albania, the salaries of judges today are the same as the salaries of judges in Greece. They are twice as high as the salaries of judges in Macedonia and Montenegro.
In 2016, we chose a reference system that was based on giving judges higher salaries and in this way we elevated them above the president, MPs and everyone else to give a strong signal of the will to have not only an independent judiciary, but also to have super salaries, which means we will do it forever.
We earn and bring money to the state budget, from that money he says our salary should be increased. This is a big surprise. To show that the difference of 37 million euros plus in salaries is covered by what we return to the state budget. It is not a harm, he says.
According to this gentleman, why shouldn't taxpayers who bring in a lot of revenue to the budget have higher salaries than others, why shouldn't the police take all the fines for themselves, what about teachers who don't bring in direct revenue to the budget, and what about pensioners?
You want 37 million to push salaries into the stratosphere, while there are plenty of other people here who contribute, who don't generate income from fines but produce other things for the good of society, but how will their salaries increase?
"I hope that the Constitutional Court does not leave this great stain of shame on society and does not make us resort to other remedies ," Rama said. /Pamphlet/
