Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador to Albania, has commented on the relationship between politics and SPAK.
He said that, in his opinion, dialogue and criticism between the parties do not affect the integration process. However, he opposed the attacks, saying that there can be no intimidation and threats against people of justice.
“ What is worrying is when the discourse turns to personal attacks, personal and direct attacks against some members of the judiciary, because this has a different value, in a way. It is a way of intimidation, it is a way of exerting influence, it is sometimes a way of undermining the credibility of some of the members of the judiciary, and this is something that we do not evaluate positively, obviously. For us, it is certainly something that should not be done. But again, a constructive dialogue that aims to improve the performance of the justice system to make it more accountable to citizens, because, I was talking about SPAK, but the ordinary justice system suffers from many delays, stagnation, citizens do not really see justice, they do not have access to the justice that they deserve ,” he told "Euronews Albania".
Asked if there is information that SPAK representatives may have been threatened, intimidated, beyond the words thrown in the media, he said: " No, I will not mention any specific threat or intimidation. In fact, I think that they have demonstrated extraordinary resilience in the face of some attacks, some insinuations, which were also directed against them. So, I think this is a positive signal. It means that they are confident enough, that they are independent and that they can resist these types of attacks ."
