Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the opening ceremony of the 2026 summer health season in Durrës, emphasized the importance of health services in the tourist season, describing the role of white shirts as key to representing the Albanian state in front of domestic and foreign tourists.
The ceremony introduced 301 newly appointed doctors and nurses who will serve in 36 summer health centers across the country.
The head of government underlined that summer health centers have now become a consolidated experience, which began several years ago with a smaller number of professionals.
According to him, the increase in the number of centers and medical staff this year comes in response to the growing influx of tourists and the challenges brought by the summer season. Rama demanded maximum commitment from health personnel to improve service and continue the good work accomplished in previous years.
"The reason why we are together today is to convey to citizens the attention of our structures, for public service is high. Your role at this stage of the year is extraordinary. The truth is that summer health centers are already a consolidated experience, initiated a few years ago with a small number of professionals involved and with a result that has made us better understand what needs to be done better season after season.
This year the number of centers and the number of nurses and doctors who will serve in these centers has increased. This year we expect the number of tourists to consolidate at least at the level it was last year, and at certain moments to increase. We will see the figures in their entirety. We have an increase that is both encouraging and challenging.
"All together we must do our best to fulfill the mission. It is Albania's mission, when those foreigners meet you, yours. You are the only image of the Albanian state, that they meet. The state is seen in the uniforms of police officers and doctors and nurses, when tourists need them. We must do our utmost to improve the good work done in the past years in the future," Rama said.
