Prime Minister Rama, during his recent visit to Greece, said that challenging the agreement in the Constitutional Court when he was in opposition was mostly an exploitation of a political moment.
Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has concluded his meeting at the Prime Minister's Office with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Dendias initially met with his Albanian counterpart Ermal Nufi, before the one-on-one meeting with Rama.
Dendia's visit to Tirana is aimed at a debate on the division of the maritime border, an issue that has been ongoing since the Constitutional Court overturned the agreement signed by the Berisha government in Tirana.
"With the Greek Minister of Defense, Nikos Dendias, a valued friend and a steadfast supporter of the strategic partnership between Albania and Greece," Rama took to social media.
A few years ago, the parties agreed to resolve the issue with the International Court of Justice in The Hague, but negotiating teams were never established to prepare this process.
At the center of the resuming discussions is expected to be the preparation of a formal agreement that would allow the two countries to submit their dispute over the continental shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone to international arbitration.
Athens and Tirana are seeking to capitalize on what Greek officials describe as a positive phase in bilateral relations.
Faced with the Albanian side's willingness to provide a solution to this issue, Greece, for its part, has confirmed its support for our country in the European Union.
Prime Minister Rama himself, during his recent visit to Greece, said that challenging the agreement in the Constitutional Court when he was in opposition was mostly an exploitation of a political moment.
Meanwhile, Sali Berisha said that the maritime agreement between the two countries is undermined by what he called "the absolutely irresponsible stance of Edi Rama and his government."
"Edi Rama, on behalf of third parties, did everything to sabotage the agreement reached before 2013 with the Greek side. I have emphasized and I emphasize that it was an agreement where both parties won, it was a win-win agreement," Berisha told the media.
