The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Albania, Gazmend Bardhi, held a meeting this Tuesday with the Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy, Nancy VanHorn. Bardhi shared details from the meeting through a post on Facebook, writing that the US is an important ally of Albania.
He further adds that he has shared his views on organized crime and corruption. According to him, in these 12 years the government has maintained power through dirty money.
"The United States of America is a valued ally of Albania and we are fortunate to have always had them by our side, at every stage of the existence of the Albanian state.
Today, during my meeting with the Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy, Ms. Nancy VanHorn, I shared our position on the fight against organized crime and corruption, as well as Albania's worrying regression in relation to democratic standards.
Unfortunately, during these 12 years, Albania has been run by a government that is a partner of organized crime and drug cartels. This government remains in power through the dirty money of organized crime and corruption.
"The only path that moves Albania forward as a developed country and as a worthy partner of the US is the real fight against organized crime and corruption by a government that emerges from free and fair elections," writes Bardhi.
