Democratic Party MP, Klevis Balliu, in a statement to the media from the Presidency of the Assembly, stated that the DP voted against the budget, accusing the government and law enforcement structures of collaborating with organized crime.
Balliu stated that, according to the opposition, “the budget cannot be handed over to those who are responsible for the insecurity in the country.” He recalled that the DP has repeatedly denounced what it considers to be deep collaboration between organized crime and the government.
According to him, "the only thing that has increased in terms of security is the cooperation of organized crime with the current government," while emphasizing that this is the main reason why the Democratic Party has opposed the budget.
Referring to recent criminal events, Balliu said that “not a week can go by in Albania without mafia assassinations,” accusing the government of allowing the creation of a “free field” for the activity of criminal groups. He argued that this situation occurs “because the gangs have cooperation with the current government and the security segments that should protect citizens.”
At the end of the statement, Balliu underlined that the proposed budget "does nothing to prevent crime", claiming that "for the government, crime is an accomplice and ally, while citizens become victims every day".
