Former DP MP Edmond Spaho says that the DP needs to change. In a lengthy reaction on social media, responding to journalist Hysni Gurra, Spaho writes that in 2021, the DP was only 30 thousand votes behind the SP, while today, it is 300 thousand votes behind. This, he emphasizes, is alarming and worrying, while it also seems to give a message to Sali Berisha, when he says that it is time for the youth.
"I speak because the DP needs to change. In 2021, we were 30 thousand votes behind the SP, in 2025 we are almost 300 thousand votes behind. This is an alarm for everyone and this worries me, despite the fact that I am no longer in active politics and will never run for any position in the DP again. Our time has passed. Young people with a different vision and more energy must come ," he wrote.
He further emphasizes that he was shown the door for raising his voice, even with the party leaders. He also targets Flamur Noka, whom he accuses of having ordered not to vote for him in Korça.
"I have spoken in institutions, I have spoken in the parliamentary group and in the leadership of the DP, and even individually with important leaders of the DP. But the DP hierarchy did not like this. For this reason, I was shown the door. Flamur will tell you more. Sir, from 2003 to 2021, in the elections in the Korça district, as an individual, I have not lost a single race in majoritarian or proportional, so when talking about votes, be careful and refer to the facts. In the 2025 elections, Flamur Noka and the district leader shamefully asked the DP structures not to vote for me but for someone else," he adds.
He then lists a series of questions, highlighting many of the DP's problems. He accuses the DP of adopting an electoral system in the interest of the SP, insisting on the vote of immigrants while not preparing them for this process, holding primaries but not respecting the results. He also raises concerns about finances, saying that they are spent on foreigners, which apparently refers to Chris LaCivitas, the American consultant with whom Berisha boasted during the May 11 electoral campaign, and who spent huge sums.
"Why are there no structures at the DP base, why can't we find committees, why are the DP's finances being spent on foreigners, who have no idea what's going on in Albania, instead of being given to the branches in the districts, which are drowning in debt and have no financial means for campaigning," says Spaho.
