Socialist MP, Erion Braçe, has ironized opposition lawmakers regarding the questions they asked the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, during today's parliamentary session.
Brace said that such plenary sessions have not been held in other European countries, where, according to him, prime ministers and ministers in office have been arrested.
Braçe said that the head of SPAK is being held accountable for the devaluation of the euro, meaning he is being asked to deal with the exchange rate.
"I have not seen a session like this in Italy, nor in France where the president was arrested, nor in Germany, nor in Austria where the prime minister was arrested."
There is a reason why such a session does not exist in these parliaments, due to respect for justice. It does not happen in any parliament that a defendant under trial calls his prosecutor to account, it is a serious violation of ethics.
I heard here today that SPAK is being pointed out as the reason for some phenomena occurring in the economy. The prosecutor was held accountable for the devaluation of the euro. For the prosecutor to deal with the exchange rate of the lek is not his duty.
When we made the reform, we took into account the need to separate justice from politics. The SPAK prosecutor is appointed by the KLP and the KLP is not appointed by politics, but by the body of prosecutors themselves. One would say, "I want so-and-so to be arrested," and then when he is arrested, he would say, "Why him and not this other one?"
"SPAK has the duty to prosecute corrupt state officials and organized crime. What has been done against organized crime deserves appreciation," he said.
