Next week, catharsis in the police dome: Ilir Proda gone?
Ilir Proda /

After cabinet changes, the prime minister prepares a crackdown on the State Police amid fears of information leaks to SPAK...

After the government restructuring, Edi Rama is also expected to intervene in the direction of the State Police. According to information, during the presentation of the new Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari, the Prime Minister will articulate criticism of the police hierarchy, focusing on the lack of loyalty. At the center of the changes will also be the general director Ilir Proda. The moves are interpreted as an attempt to consolidate political control over the security structures, at a time of tension with SPAK and sensitive investigations near the majority.

After the complete surgery he performed on his government, Edi Rama is expected to perform another major operation on an important state agency next week.

Immediately after the new ministers are appointed and sworn in before the president, a second storm is expected.

Edi Rama has planned to personally introduce the new Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari, and in that environment he is expected to give the state police a cold shower.

It is learned that he cunningly chose the story to accuse the leadership of not being loyal to the Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, by leaving her alone and not supporting her in her work.

Edi Rama's language will be harsh, to justify a true catharsis in the State Police dome, in which a great caliphate is expected.

The first head to be cut off is that of the police chief, Ilir Proda, who was appointed before the May 11 elections, and in all likelihood has fulfilled the mandate that was in Edi Rama's head.

Which, at the very moment when a senior leader begins to shape his own sphere of influence in the institution, cuts off all the small roots of the seedlings.

Meanwhile, the real cause of the change lies elsewhere, and it has to do with Edi Rama's increased paranoia about a possible logistical cooperation, such as information exchange, between the police and SPAK.

Edi Rama wants to turn the State Police into a Praetorian Guard, so that in the event of any major trouble for him, it can go out on an open front to fight against the prime minister's enemies.

The fight in this case will not be cold at all, but fierce, even 'body to body'. When he openly attacked the "brave men of BKH with a baton", he sent the signal that no one should think of approaching, as he will have a direct response.

The new director is expected to be appointed from a member of this Praetorian Guard, whose primary and most important task is to control any information that passes from and to prosecutors.

This applies not only to matters of investigations that special prosecutors may initiate, but also to any information in the territory, especially regarding matters of investments, land, construction, or various transactions.

The action of SPAK, very close to the Socialist Party, against a call center company was carried out in collaboration with police structures, but Minister Koçiu was not aware of it. This has angered the Prime Minister, who is learned to have told her that she cannot do the task assigned to her. Since that day she has been effectively dismissed and Rama has been waiting for the day to act. Meanwhile, it is not that he is not informed of everything that happens in the police dome, except for official reports.

Because Rama has several parallel and intersecting networks of control over power, and he has shown this all these years.

But now, a landslide is feared in various police structures with information leaks, or with cooperation with internationals. In Albania, it has become a tradition for all these 35 years that various police officers are a coveted environment of various agencies and services, using activities and parties to bring people closer to get something from the inside.

This very part, namely the meeting of any senior officer with diplomats or foreign colleagues, is expected to be banned by special orders. An act that will most likely be useless. But it will increase pressure and paranoia.

In a calm situation, Edi Rama cannot govern, because he will have to speak on facts and give an account. In a tense situation and always at a crossroads, the first thing that governs is fear and facade propaganda./ Pamphlet
