After the conclusion of the second trial session on the merits against former President Ilir Meta in the Special Court, his defense lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, stated that the process against Meta and Monika Kryemadhi will continue with an ordinary trial, with the aim of proving their innocence.

In a statement to the media, Cakrani said that the court decided to accept the request for a summary trial for the co-defendants and at the same time divide the file.

" The court today, after hearing the prosecutor in a summary manner regarding the co-defendants, decided to accept the summary trial and the division of the case, based on Article 93. The case will now be re-drawn again and we expect that the next trial panel will examine the case on the merits of Ms. Kryemadhi and Mr. Meta ," the lawyer said.

According to him, the defense will present a large number of evidence and witnesses in the trial.

" We will present our evidence. Fortunately, we have many requests for invalidity, unusability, but also for the seizure of evidence, not only those with witnesses, which are about 120 witnesses on our side, but also new evidence, such as the financial evaluation report and many other pieces of evidence ," Cakrani declared.

The lawyer emphasized that the choice to proceed with a regular trial was intentional to refute SPAK's accusations.

" We would definitely go with a normal trial, because we wanted to prove innocence ," he said.

Cakrani also claimed that during the hearing the prosecution did not present evidence directly implicating Ilir Meta.

" You saw that the prosecutor had no evidence to incriminate Mr. Meta. At least I'm talking about Mr. Meta, whose legal representative I am. Mr. Meta did not enter into any of the conversations, whether telephone conversations, messages, e-mails, or even meetings ," he said.

The lawyer also commented on the court's decision not to accept the request to replace the security measure against the former president.

" We will continue our battle, even though the court today did not accept our request for the replacement of the security measure ," Cakrani declared.

The Special Court decided that Fatime Kryemadhi, Pirro Xhixho and Ema Çoku will be tried in a summary procedure, while the case against Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi will continue with a normal trial.
