The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has asked Prime Minister Edi Rama to appear at the plenary session to provide explanations regarding the US Embassy's warning of possible attacks on Albania by groups linked to Iran.
During his speech in the Assembly, Bardhi criticized the government's stance and statements that, according to him, minimize an important issue of national security. He emphasized that such issues should not be treated as political debates or informal communications, but require transparency and institutional seriousness.
Bardhi sought clarification on the reasons why the US warning was described as “conjecture”, as well as on the concrete measures that have been taken by Albanian institutions in this regard. He also raised questions about the level of coordination with international partners and the official assessment of the security situation in the country.
"National security issues are not Twitter issues, nor government positions, nor coffee shops, they are important issues, in order not to use it for politics and not to arouse concern, I must emphasize that we as MPs have no information on the issues addressed by the US announcement. The position referred to by the government minister was beyond scandalous, a government that cannot control smuggled oil with radar, a government that has not seized a gram of cocaine even though it passes before its eyes, a government that for years has not seen 98% of the area planted with cannabis, cannot be trusted.
"Attempts to discredit official US information as conjecture make Albania look ridiculous at best, at worst it sends the message that Albania has no cooperation with our strategic ally in the field of security, or that there is no trust between each other. The political message that Rama gave yesterday, through the press office, is that Albanians should not trust the US on security issues and that they should not pay attention to their announcements. Attempts to discredit the US. We demand that Rama appear in the session and provide explanations to the deputies on 3 issues, why he considered the US warning about ill-intentioned intentions with Iran as conjecture, is there coordination between international partners on the issue and what information has the Albanian government exchanged with the US, is there an official assessment of the Albanian institutions on the security situation regarding the Iran issue and what preventive measures have been taken and what are the structures engaged in this issue," said Bardhi.
