The White House has again proposed David Kostelancik as the ambassador of the United States of America to Albania.
This re-proposal comes after the rejection that the Senate did a week ago due to exceeding the deadlines.
Thus, the name of David Kostelancik has been sent again to the US Senate for approval.
" David J. Kostelancik, from Illinois, Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Minister Counselor Class, is nominated to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Albania ," the White House announced. .
David Kostelancik appeared before the Senate in March and his approval seemed certain. But Republicans blocked all new appointments, including ambassadors. This blockade continued until January 4, when Kostelancik's candidacy was rejected.
Kostelancik is a diplomat of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States of America, Minister Counselor rank. He began serving as a foreign policy advisor to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, in August 2021. Kostelancik previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission, and for two years, as Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the US in Budapest, Hungary, where he provided leadership and policy guidance to the mission's staff of more than 350 people.
Among other things, Kostelancik was appointed in the US State Department as Director of the Office for South-Central European Affairs. He has served as Director of the Office of Russian Affairs, in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. The diplomat was also the Director of the Office of Europe and Asia at the International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Earlier in his career, he served twice at the US Embassy in Moscow. Other assignments in which Kostelancik has been involved are the US Mission to the OSCE and the US Mission to NATO, focusing on security cooperation with Russia, the US Embassy in Albania and the US Embassy in Turkey.
He also served on the National Security Council, focusing on US relations with Central European countries.
