Gazment Bardhi has called all opposition MPs to a meeting. A day after Lulzim Basha dismissed him from the post of head of the Parliamentary Group in the Democratic Party, Bardhi has taken a step to unify the opposition action against the government.
As the party has already split into three parts, Bardhi has called to a meeting, on Tuesday, September 5, all the MPs of the opposition, including those from the group of Basha and Sali Berisha, as well as the allies who have left the list of the PD alliance. -AN.
Bardhi says in his statement that nothing should prevent them from uniting and unifying the opposition's position and action against Edi Rama's misgovernment.
"During all this time and especially in this period of deepening bad governance, I have analyzed with maximum responsibility the situation in the country and the need that Albania has for a strong, unified and fully functional opposition.
The Albanian opposition is facing a corrupt government linked to organized crime, which has undermined free and fair elections through illegal methods. For this reason, the public interest and the protection of the interests of the citizens, requires that every oppositionist concentrate his energies only on confronting the regime of Edi Rama.
Unfortunately, this has not happened in the last 2 years. The internal war in the Democratic Party has weakened the opposition and often defocused it from its mission, creating an unparalleled and completely undeserved comfort for Edi Rama in his 3rd consecutive term, where misgovernance, arrogance and corruption rule. This situation dictates the urgent need for each of us, opposition MPs, to surpass ourselves in order to offer and find solutions in the common interest of all opposition parties and every citizen seeking a change of government.
The differences in opinions and positions on various issues within the Democratic Party should not defocus us from the responsibility we have towards the country and the citizens. I firmly believe that the issues that unite us are more than the issues that divide us.
While preserving and respecting the position or individual opinions of each deputy about the developments or the internal debate in the Democratic Party and in the opposition camp, I share the conviction with the majority of my colleagues that this should not prevent us from uniting and unifying the position and action opposition against Edi Rama's misgovernment.
For this reason, in the capacity of the Chairman of the PD Parliamentary Group, at the start of this parliamentary session, I will take the initiative to call on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, a joint meeting of all deputies of the coalition "PD- AN", without any exception. Believing that the concern for the urgent need to unify the opposition is shared by every deputy who feels the responsibility for a unified confrontation against Edi Rama, I welcome the acceptance of this sincere call, with the good intention of defining the agenda and common strategy of all DP and the entire parliamentary opposition," declared Bardhi.
