For more than an hour, during the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Prime Minister Edi Rama has chosen not to focus on the accusations and demands of the protesters who have been protesting in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 20 days, but on what he considers the phenomenon of social networks, influencers and algorithms.

In a long part of his speech, Rama argued that the protests are being fueled by the culture of online attention, ironically mocking people who, according to him, have never had political engagement or civic activism, and for whom he said that they have become like saddles and creams, are exploiting the protests to gain fame and followers on social networks.

"A scheme has been created to show off and to collect greedily, based on the fact that algorithms encourage people to increase their dose, likes, and followers, just like drugs. How many times have you heard this these days from people who never in their lives imagined getting involved in politics and protests, but have become parelini with saddles and creams, to appear with their saddles and creams, because it is trendy," said Rama.

The Prime Minister claimed that many of those who have joined the protests do not do so because of the cause or dissatisfaction with the government, but out of a desire to be in the spotlight and not to miss what he called the "wave" of the moment.

"They are afraid of being left out of the wave. Because in the attention economy, silence is not rewarded, only participation. Only the one who has the courage to enter the competition, the one who makes the most dramatic video, is rewarded," said the head of government.
