Deputy Agron Gjekmarkaj has stated that the Democratic Party is in its existential and final test. Gjekmarkaj says that Albania needs a strong and serious opposition.
"In this context, I supported Mr. Bardhi. I see it as an exploratory opportunity and perhaps the last opportunity to give a face of seriousness to the Democratic Party and save it.
To be honest, I have considered the declaration of Sali Berisha 'non grata' by the USA as a great disaster, and the way Mr. Berisha reacted was just as unfortunate. I want to emphasize that I am not critical of Lulzim Basha because Sali Berisha is criticizing him today. I am just as critical of Berisha today. But something happened. Each of us reflects. But there comes a moment when some major interests prevail... I think that Albania needs a strong and serious opposition that it doesn't have today. I think that the democrats need to see their party united, as the only possibility to restart the revival", said the deputy.
The union is the minimum we should do, says Gjekmarkaj, which suggests that the supporters of Sali Berisha should not be ignored.
" We were united and either they stole from us, or we lost, but we were not winners. So the union is the minimum to start with. Something happened, 510 thousand people voted for Berisha's group, they think differently from us. I don't think they are anti-American. 510 thousand people are more than Sali Berisha and more than us. You cannot ignore this political reality, this massive vote. If we exclude these people, what are the chances that the opposition will win?! I don't know Sali Berisha as chairman. I don't even know Lulzim Basha ", emphasizes the democrat, who expresses his disappointment with Basha, who according to him is becoming ridiculous.
Berisha lost to Rama in 2013 with 1 million votes. Lulzim Basha joined the decision to declare him 'non grata', but we are witnesses that he did not fight a single day, he hid. He appeared in three cuckoo interviews and said nothing. Even today, he does not dare to speak Berisha's name. It cannot be disconnected.
I knew Lulzim Basha was serious in his mediocrity, but I didn't think he was such a frivolous joker. To play a comedy of this caliber, I am sorry that I have supported him with my soul for 10 years. I wanted him to succeed, to be prime minister, but to appear with such a ridiculous profile... "- added Gjekmarkaj.
