The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, has made the balance sheets of the State Police for the year 2023.
The Minister of the Interior has taken stock of the murders of the past year, saying that the figure of 35 murders is the lowest that Albania has recorded in the last 30 years.
"We have had a decrease in the number of criminal homicides this year, 35 so far in 2023 compared to 107 in 2013 and 124 in 2012. 28 of these incidents have been detected. Almost 1/3 of these criminal events, 11 are domestic crimes. Making 2023 a historic year for order and security", he said.
During a press conference, Balla said that 1/3 of the cases are crimes within the family, therefore he asked the authorities for an iron hand against gender-based violence.
"Drastic decrease in murders, 35 murders until December 31, compared to 107 in 2013 and 124 in 2012. 1/3 are family crimes, like today's event in Tirana. 35 is a number that Albania has never had in 30 years. I have asked the local Police Directorate, an iron hand against gender-based violence and a support for all victims of violence. With a broken heart, I say that in 2023 there will be 4,600 cases of domestic violence. 2 thousand lawsuit request for protection order. Unacceptable situation," said Balla.
