The US Embassy in Tirana has published a message on social media regarding the meeting it held with some of the MPs who will be part of the new legislature, resulting from the May 11 elections.
What is striking is the fact that the meeting called by the US Embassy is attended by young MPs, not those who can be considered 'heavyweights' of Albanian politics. And perhaps this is a message that is given not only to party leaders, but also to public opinion.
The photos published by the US embassy show MPs Igli Cara and Besart Xhaferri, who appear to have been selected from among those from the Democratic Party, while Ilva Gjuzi from the Socialists. Also, Erald Kapri of the Opportunity Party is one of the names that appears in the embassy photos.

“Recently, United States Embassy staff met with newly elected members of the Assembly to understand their communities’ concerns and priorities as they begin their mandate.
"We look forward to working with elected representatives from across the political spectrum to continue our close partnership with Albania," the message published on the US Embassy's website reads.

The latter has kept a very low profile in recent months, not being part of any of the political debates in the country. Even for the May 11 elections, there was a very 'dry' message from the US, congratulating only the Albanian people, while Edi Rama received his 4th consecutive mandate as Prime Minister with a full 83 mandates in the Assembly, while Sali Berisha declared the non-recognition of the elections.
With the exception of a few messages it has given to support SPAK in continuing its crackdown on high-level corruption and organized crime, the US Embassy has completely avoided any other comment on political developments.
