Today's Marko Đurić-Marko Rubio meeting: US brings Serbia back to the

The US returns strongly to the Balkans, asks Serbia to choose a side and warns of consequences for any attempt at destabilization in Kosovo and Bosnia...

Today’s meeting in Washington between Marko Đurić, Serbian Foreign Minister, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is not just a routine diplomatic event. It is a strategic shift in the United States’ stance towards a veteran Balkan player who has played all sides of the court for years. For the first time since 2007, a Serbian Foreign Minister has been received at this high level by the US administration. But beyond the photos and careful phrases in press statements, this meeting is anything but a welcome. It is a silent warning to the Vučić regime. The double game has reached its end.

According to information published by the Serbian media and independent diplomatic confirmations, the agenda was not only big words about economic cooperation. At the center of the discussion were the most delicate and dangerous topics for the Balkans and for the stability of Southeast Europe itself. Kosovo was the most sensitive issue. The US administration, through Rubio, has clearly stated that it is no longer interested in endless negotiations with a Belgrade that blocks any agreement according to the interests of the moment. For the first time, the US no longer necessarily requires formal recognition of Kosovo's independence. They require implementation of existing agreements and institutional functionality. This means that Serbia must stop sabotaging the dialogue and accept a new reality, where Kosovo is a state that seeks to function and protect itself from internal and external encroachment.

Equally critical was the issue of Bosnia. Belgrade’s relationship with Milorad Dodik and support for the separatist movements of Republika Srpska has become a serious problem for Washington. The United States has made it clear that any attempt to import a crisis into Bosnia, whether under Russian influence or as a destabilizing tactic by Belgrade, will have consequences. Serbia cannot seek investment from the West and at the same time encourage an ethnocratic politician like Dodik to destroy peace in Bosnia.

In the background of these tensions stands Russia. Serbia's refusal to join sanctions against Moscow and maintaining a dual position between the West and the Kremlin has become unacceptable for Washington. The US no longer sees Serbia as a neutral country. It demands a clear choice. Therefore, this meeting was not a friendly signal. It was a cold message that patience has limits.

For Albania, Kosovo and the region as a whole, this is a development that requires attention and a strategic response. America is reminding Belgrade that the Serbian factor can no longer remain outside accountability. If the US has decided to forcefully return to the Balkan scene, then Albanian politics must react with seriousness and coherence. It must strengthen cooperation with the West and take advantage of the new window that is opening in Washington. Because today's meeting was not for Serbia. It was a signal for the entire region. The game of masks is ending and major decisions can no longer be postponed./ Pamphlet
