The Constitutional Court made its decision public on Friday evening, after a long wait that directly involved Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
After the government meeting in the morning, Edi Rama stayed for a long time in his office at the Prime Minister's Office. Belinda Balluku also returned to the government building in the early hours of the afternoon, after a short outing.
Initially, the impression was created that the two would await the Constitutional Court's decision at the Prime Minister's Office. However, the process's extension beyond the expected time and the lack of an official announcement during the afternoon led to their departure from their respective offices.
The decision was announced at around 10:00 PM, at a time when the central government building was in a state of disarray. The lights were off and the premises were empty, as the news was made public outside institutional hours.
Constitutional Decision on Balluk
The delayed announcement of the decision highlighted an unusual day of waiting for the government, which ended without the presence of key leaders at the Prime Minister's Office.
After about 2 and a half months, the Constitutional Court ruled today, February 6, on the request submitted by the government regarding the decision of the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC), which in November 2025 decided to suspend Belinda Balluku from her duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.
After the meeting that started at 11:00, it was decided to dismiss the government's lawsuit, as the judges voted 4 in favor and 4 against, failing to reach the necessary quorum. Thus, the suspension measure for Belinda Balluku, which had been lifted on December 12, 2025, by the same court's verdict, was reinstated.
