The Constitutional Court failed to reach a majority decision regarding the appeal filed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, which sought a resolution of competences between the Council of Ministers and the GJKKO and SPAK, regarding the suspension of members of the Government from office by court decisions, without prior authorization.
The eight members of the Constitutional Court were divided 4 to 4, which means that the Prime Minister's appeal was rejected and the decision of the Constitutional Court, according to which Belinda Balluku is suspended from office, remained in force.
Following the Constitutional Court's decision, there was a series of reactions from the opposition and its MPs.
Adriatik Lapaj, of 'Albania Becomes', writes on social media that today's Constitutional Court decision showed that the Albanian Government attempted to obstruct justice with their actions, with the aim of protecting Balluk.
"It was proven by the Constitutional Court that the Council of Ministers and Edi Rama obstructed justice with their actions. Justice must now go to Edi Rama!", Lapaj wrote.
The leader of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, has stated that the end of impunity will only come when Prime Minister Edi Rama is brought to justice.
"Finally, the Constitutional Court decided the final suspension of Belinda Balluku. Can we say that this is the end of impunity in Albania? No. Now it's Edi Rama's turn. Because everyone in Albania knows that Edi Rama is at the head of corruption and only with the bringing of Prime Minister Edi Rama to justice can we say that the end of impunity has come in Albania as well," writes Shehaj.
Gazment Bardhi, head of the DP Parliamentary Group, said in a reaction that Edi Rama exerted unprecedented pressure on the Constitutional Court.
"Edi Rama was overthrown in his claim to block justice. Anyone who obstructs justice will be overthrown in the same way. Now, Edi Rama has nowhere to hide," writes Bardhi.
