Lawyer Jordan Daci has commented on the situation of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who is facing a request for his dismissal from Socialist Party advisors.
Daci emphasized that from a political point of view he would be in favor of dismissal, but from a legal perspective he opposes this possibility.
" If you were to ask me politically, I would say he should be fired, but legally, as a lawyer, I say no, " he said.
He continued by explaining that "the principle of equality before the law is constitutional, as the Assembly and members of the Assembly are both elected by the people and we cannot have two standards.
" The mayor is sometimes more important than a deputy. He has reasonable grounds to request this. If it were the standard 3-month period, they would dismiss him even earlier. The logic is this, as long as the issue is normal, it is important but it cannot be judged by the Constitutional Court with priority. In this regard, the Constitutional Court cannot give it priority ," said Daci in an interview for "Review" on "Euronews Albania".
