The images of a group of Italian tourists who left without paying the bill after having dinner in one of Berat's restaurants have made the rounds of the network in Italy but not only.
The news, which has caused different reactions in both our and Italian media, did not pass without comment from the Italian embassy in Tirana, which has shown that they made the payment at the restaurant in Berat, from which some left without paying Italian citizens.
Through an announcement on Facebook, the Embassy writes that the payment was made after the order given by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
That was enough for this news to occupy the first headlines in some Italian daily newspapers, which have not spared their irony with Meloni's gesture.
The irony of the daily "Il Tempo", which has published a photo-montage with an impromptu dialogue between Meloni and Prime Minister Edi Rama on its front page, with the caption:
"Giorgia, can you leave us a tip for the clothes?"
Meanwhile, the irony continued in the online media.
"Giorgia pays for underwear", says an Italian meme.
Yesterday it was Prime Minister Edi Rama who shared the news that his Italian counterpart, Meloni, had asked to pay the bill at the restaurant where the Italian citizens ran away without paying.
Rama commented about the incident during the interview for "La Stampa" and showed that when he told Meloni everyone laughed.
In the interview, the Albanian Prime Minister showed that Meloni told the Italian ambassador that he should immediately pay the bill as Italy cannot lose respect in this way.
"Albanian media and TikTok only talked about a group of Italians who escaped from a restaurant in Berat without paying. The owner turned it down. When I told Giorgia, everyone laughed. She shouted and ordered the ambassador: “Go and pay the bill for these fools, please, and make a statement! Italy cannot lose respect like this", said Rama to La Stampa.
