Ballot boxes are closed in the city of Kukës.

The northeastern city held the mayoral elections today, after the video scandal of the former mayor of the SP Safet Gjici, where he appears having intimate relations with the citizen Alma Kaçi inside the premises of the municipality office. He resigned a few days after winning the election on May 14, 2023.

The two candidates facing each other are Albert Halilaj of the Socialist Party, and Emri Vata of the coalition "We win together".
In total, there were nearly 46 thousand citizens with the right to vote, while until 18.00 the participation was 44.16%. The ballot boxes are expected to be transported to the premises of the CEAZ, where the counting of votes will then begin. There were no incidents in this process. The Together We Win coalition has issued accusations that members of the administration were seen near the polling stations intimidating the citizens.

The citizens did not vote for the members of the Municipal Council, but only for the two candidates of the political forces, and perhaps this explains the lower number of voters.

In this election process, 99 police officers are engaged who will provide the election materials in the 74 voting centers and it is expected that the transportation of the boxes to the CEAZ no. 11 Kukës where their counting will start.
