Two days before Albanians head to the ballot boxes, Socialist leader Edi Rama spoke about the challenges of governance, the EU integration process, his campaign model, and expectations for a fourth term.
In an interview for the show "Top Story", Rama explained why he chose to have folk songs and dances in this electoral campaign.
Excerpt from the interview:
Edi Rama : You didn't understand anything about the why of that debate. The reason for that format is related to what has happened throughout the campaign, because I discussed it when I was at the table, we need to find a way to make it easier for people than gathering, giving speeches. When people come, they shouldn't just sit there, but let's see how we can create an atmosphere that gives politics, gives the campaign a more human, more relaxed look. We brought chairs into the rallies, now everyone uses them, because this was also a discussion, I said why is everyone standing, even if I were there, I would have thought myself used. We brought chairs, we removed faces from the streets, from the pillars, as few billboards as possible, even those that have been put up, I was against it. I told them not to bring any billboards, let's not pollute Albania, and let's have a more relaxed campaign. All political leaders have given a short message, introduced the candidates, brought out the traditions of the areas such as songs or dances. The media swamp environment was disturbed by the loudmouths who wake up with Mozart and sleep with Chopin.
Grida Duma : But if the media judges it, it's a swamp
Edi Rama : It's not about that. The media quagmire is for many reasons. If you do some research and take the hours you spend in these studios talking about the real Albania and its problems, this has nothing to do with reality.
