The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called for a civic reaction to the increase in fuel prices, describing the situation as unacceptable and harmful to Albanian families.
In a live conversation on social media, Berisha emphasized that the opposition will present a concrete package to reduce prices, but underlined that this also requires a reaction from citizens.
"Rise up, citizens, do not accept this punishment that expresses hatred," he said.
According to him, the price of oil in Albania is significantly higher than in countries in the region.
"The DP pledges to the Albanians that in the Republic of Albania a liter of oil will never be sold more expensively than in Kosovo and the RMV, where the price is about 60 percent lower than in Albania," Berisha declared.
He emphasized that the impact of fuel prices goes beyond vehicle users, affecting the entire economy.
"Oil doesn't just affect those who own cars... it affects every food product and the cost of every agricultural production," said the leading Democrat.
Berisha added that the current price level is unjustifiable compared to European countries.
"Those who have cars buy diesel at the same price or slightly more expensive than in Switzerland and Sweden, while salaries there are 6 times higher," said the leader of the DP.
In conclusion, he described the situation as a burden for all citizens and reiterated the call for a response.
"Oil is a punishment for all citizens... and I invite citizens to rise up in revolt," declared Berisha, adding that the fiscal package will be presented in the coming days.

Oil does not only affect those who have cars, but it affects every citizen through the increase in the price of transportation, it affects every food product, the cost of every agricultural production because agricultural imports are based on oil. Oil is a punishment for all citizens, and I invite citizens to rise up in revolt. We will establish that fiscal regime that makes it possible for oil in Albania to be sold the same as in Kosovo and the Republic of Macedonia, we have prepared the package, next week we will present it to the public. But this also requires a citizen reaction", Berisha said.
