Starting next week and until June 12, the date that coincides with the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party, every socialist mandated person, in the Municipality or the Assembly, including ministers, will be in meetings with citizens.
This is the ultimatum that Edi Rama is reported to have given at the meeting of the Parliamentary Group that began its work at around 11:00 at the Brigades Palace in Tirana, without the presence of the media, while in addition to reporting, the strategy that will be followed is also being determined.
The round of meetings will focus on EU integration, as well as the accountability that mayors must provide to citizens regarding fulfilled promises, but also failures. In this context, it seems that the Prime Minister has chosen to confront the Mayors with the citizens of the Municipalities where they received mandates in 2023, thus testing the support they have on the ground, which may serve to decide whether or not to run for re-election in the 2027 elections.
The next point of the tour is EU integration. Rama has stated that Albania will be part of the Union by 2030, while he has floated the idea of a quick membership without the right of veto, but this idea has not found support in some of the EU member states, especially Germany, which conditions membership on the fulfillment of conditions.
In recent weeks, there seems to be a long-distance clash between Rama, who was long considered the "darling" of Brussels, and the European chancelleries. The cause of this clash has been the Prime Minister's attempts to block or obstruct SPAK investigations, but also the successive attacks he has launched against the special structure that fights corruption at high levels.
Despite undertaking several changes in the Government, giving the cabinet a makeover, it seems that Rama's relations with Brussels are "frozen", while the focus is on the criminal crackdown on corruption cases, even though from time to time EU bureaucrats appear to issue statements on the same wavelength as the Prime Minister, relativizing corruption cases.
Reports indicate that at today's meeting of the Parliamentary Group, Rama gave a special message to ministers and MPs to dialogue with citizens, to clarify the steps taken in relation to integration, but also those that are expected to be taken to realize what has been considered for decades as the most important dream for Albanians.
Rama announced the start of the tour of meetings with citizens in early March, during a meeting of the SP Presidency, to reiterate this at the meeting of the Parliamentary Group and then at the SP National Assembly.
