In 5 days, Albanian emigrants have submitted 20,245 requests for registration on the voter list of voters from abroad, while they have time to complete the electronic form in the CEC application until March 4.
So far, the most interested seem to be Albanians from Italy with 6,197 requests, followed by Greece and Germany in the top three places. But this opportunity, given for the first time to Albanians across the globe, is also being used by those living in small states and islands, such as 4 requests from Albanians in Guadeloupe, 2 from Antigua and Barbuda, 1 request from Ghana, Zambia or the Fiji Islands... Gender data shows that men predominate in requests to exercise the right to vote, with 67%.
Xhaferi left Albania in 1997 and has been living in Italy for three decades and considers the diaspora's vote important.
" I fled by helicopter from Farka to a province in Verona, after 25 years of work with documents I have been stabilized. I have never come to the post office for elections, only when I was there did I vote. But I know the political situation and I constantly follow the news, two or three times a day. And it is important that we will vote. We are looking forward to it with pleasure and I have talked to friends or family who are here ," said Xhaferi.
Julia, who has disconnected from Albanian reality by living in Spain, thinks differently.
" I've been living in Spain for years and I don't know what's going on in Albania in general. But even if I were to vote, I'm not sure how valuable my vote would be since I don't even know the candidates for MP ," said Julia.
Online registration of voters outside Albanian territory for the May 11 elections is the first step to exercising the right to vote, where personal data must be filled in on the CEC app, having an Albanian means of identification or identity card or passport. /Top Channel
