From siding with Basha, to "traitors" and May 11, Orjola Pampuri

Tonight's guest on the Pamflet podcast on YouTube was MP Orjola Pampuri, who is running on May 11 under the banner of Lulzim Basha's Euro-Atlantic Coalition. In "Të Pashoq" she gave a 180-degree account of the situation in the DP, the decision to stand by Basha and the expectations for the May 11 elections. She also did not spare those who went after Berisha. According to Pampuri, she did this to get a seat.

-When the big split happened, some rushed to join Sali Berisha, did you remain loyal to Basha until the end?

I remained loyal to my decision of September 9, 2021 and to my principles that were coherent with Basha's group. It's not a matter of name. It was Basha, it could have been someone else. I remained loyal to my principles. I made a decision on September 9, for me it was simple because it was a division of the DP where one group was led by a person who had represented the right for many years and the other name was Basha, with all the events that happened later. I did not remain loyal to Basha, but to my principles. If you have coherence, you have a strong side through which you stand up to everyone. I currently have goodwill from everyone, even those who support Berisha, they value one thing: Coherence. The other group, I believe that a part of it is Sali Berisha's loyalists, who showed that they are on a closed list.

-Yes, some names were with Basha and passed to Berisha, like Bardhi, Sula, etc.

I had made the decision and nothing tempted me to go to that group even though I had many offers to be here and there. Nothing tempted me. I am not here for a chair. I am here because I entered politics, what I am and I want to come out and say that this lady, what she was, did not change. Those who stayed and gave Basha all the power, I was there and I saw that I had no power. I see that they had everything. They were the most important of this group, thanks to the trust that Basha gave them without compromise and today they are with Berisha and he left them off the list with a finger in his mouth. Everyone calculated that Basha would issue open lists, he would not get so many mandates and why not go there and get 3-4 chairs. Why get tired. Others get tired for us. They made the wrong calculation because coherence gives you an assessment. Lack of coherence has great risks.

-What is the disadvantage of staying with Basha?

I don't read the comments on social networks. At first yes, then I saw that it is toxicity and it hinders you and it is better to do your duty, everyone expresses their opinion. I didn't lose anything. Maybe I am more comfortable than they thought they would be, who did everything, danced, went down the balcony, made a fuss over Berisha and he told them that I keep my loyalists. You are not loyal and ended up where they are, fighting towards nothing. In order to fight on an open list, the closed list must be completed with 12 deputies in Tirana. In 2017, the DP received 11 mandates, in 2025, where there is also dissatisfaction with that list, it could be worse. That list must be completed and the calculation for the open list must begin. So the possibility is very small for those on the open list. May 12 will show who has lost or gained the most. The winner is the one who saved face and didn't do pirouettes for a chair.

-You have it with the individual, Sali Berisha is the red line?

If after the May 11 elections the question of cooperation is raised, of course we will not cooperate with Edi Rama, but there are also red lines for Sali Berisha. We cannot undo the decision of September 9, that decision that led to the great division of the Democrats. We cannot tell the Democrats who sacrificed everything, who endured the mud, that it has changed today when nothing has changed regarding what led us to the decision of September 9.

The other red line is justice. The only institution that guarantees the end of impunity is SPAK. We are against that justice system that was controlled by politics. There is an extraordinary investment of the EU and the US in SPAK, so we have fully supported SPAK and the crackdown on corruption and organized crime.

-What if Berisha leaves as leader of the DP?

Pampuri:  We are all democrats, if the red lines fall, then it is undeniable that the right unites and the left needs to be renewed, because there are people with precedents within it. It is undeniable that there will be attacks, strikes, this is not even discussed. The fact that we have 34 years in transition is not accidental, it is a transition designed for these figures to create their own fortresses, to remain protected. Without these fortresses falling, this country will not be built.

-There are rumors that Basha will collaborate with Edi Rama

Edi Rama should get ready to be investigated for the McGonigal case, he is clear about this. McGonigal received his sentence, now Rama must be investigated. Donald Trump's coming to power makes us believe that this case will be investigated to the end. Let everyone be clear that Lulzim Basha is not saying 7x7 = 313 in vain. Therefore, Edi Rama is not calm either, because in addition to the McGonigal case that he has to answer for, because he corrupted the highest FBI counterintelligence official, there is also the incinerators case. There are also other cases, because today Ilir Beqaj, Erion Veliaj, Jurgis Çyrbja and many others are in prison, and those signatures or decisions that have been made were not signed by those who are in prison, but also by Edi Rama.

-How is the campaign going?

We are all on the open list and we are all for open votes. The meetings have been extended by Kamza, Vora, Paskuqani. This is to hold meetings with pensioners and the middle class who are dissatisfied, and promoting meritocracy. Our program points are family well-being and support for young couples, 20 thousand euros for each baby. Developed countries have this standard, this program is closer to developed EU countries.

-What problems do they tell you about?

We have met small businesses that during one day several tax collectors come and go. Offering a flat tax of 9 percent, it is a good opportunity, offering an opportunity for students to get an education, the lack of meritocracy. They graduate from faculties and cannot find a job even though they are excellent and have foreign languages and are treated. Paid 1-year work experience, encouraging subsidies for 30 thousand couples to buy their own apartment. All of this generates income, and gives businesses and young people the opportunity and hope to stay in their country. In reality, there are no increased salaries, it is simply indexation. Pensions over 200 euros and continuous bonuses, all of this is an opportunity. Albanians pay for the health system and it does not translate into service. These are the points in the program of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition.
