The leader of the PAA, Agron Duka, has revealed details of the agreement he reached with Sali Berisha's DP for the May 11 elections.
Duka said that PAA will have a secure MP on the closed lists of the DP.
The head of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party explained that the Electoral Code does not favor them, which is why they have joined the DP and will respect the agreement with them until the end.
On Report TV, Duka raised concerns about the division of the opposition, especially the factions that have broken away from the DP, such as Lulzim Basha, Agron Shehaj, Enkelejd Alibeaj and others. According to him, this division, if they do not unite, will harm them on May 11 and is a negative side. But he stressed that the corruption that the government has introduced has created dissatisfaction among the masses and this is a positive side.
" A PAA candidate will be on the closed lists of the DP. Regarding my departure, I can say that the big parties want big decisions. I don't think a ship like ours feels the shock of my departure from the race for MP, and the party is even being renewed with new blood. You have in mind what happened to Mr. Sali Berisha with his departure from the DP, his withdrawal in 2013 was more or less at my age, Basha's mistake that he left the party, but he has returned and there is no one else who does this job better. So Berisha's departure from the DP shook the party, while we are small parties. Basha used negative tactics with his movements in the opposition towards it ," said Duka.
He views the division within the opposition, and especially within the DP, with great negativity.
" Those who have left the DP can harm the opposition and these are the negative sides. If they were together it would be a different spirit, if they were altruistic. I am talking here about Basha, Shehaj, Right 1912 and the others who have left the DP. There are numerous departures from the core of the DP and this has brought harm, it is a negative side. Their departure brings a loss of votes. The positive is the fact that people in the government are coming out as corrupt from the governance they have had, even though Prime Minister Rama is trying to soften it, because it belongs to them. But basically I see that there is great dissatisfaction and the opposition is irritating ," he explained.
Duka also explains the reason why he joined the DP, as they secured a name on the closed lists.
" The Electoral Code does not leave us much room. We have made a contract with the DP and we will stick to it until the end. We joined the DP because of the Code, because it does not favor us. There is a revolt and we hope it will return in the vote. Rama is playing with the intellect of the people, when he was voted in with 74 votes and now after 12 years he expects 100 votes of deputies, I do not believe he will get that much. It would be good if no party alone formed the government. He would take the wheel himself, he would do the dancing himself, but it is not good like this, because when you have allies it serves to soften the direction" , said the head of the PAA.
He predicted that despite their spirit, small parties may not get more than 1-2 MPs, but their fragmented votes harm the opposition as a whole.
" I hope that the new parties will not only receive votes, but also mandates, because that is important. But these should not be seen 6 months before the elections, because when voting day comes, citizens go to the big parties. So we as a small party are not favored and were forced to join the DP. I believe that this will be the end of them, it is difficult for them to translate into mandates with leaps like 8 mandates, 20, 70 or more. I hope and believe somewhere around 1 or two mandates, so I hope that those votes they have will be translated into deputies" , says Duka.
