Former Democratic Party candidate for MP, Ilir Alimehmeti, during a television interview did not specify whether the largest opposition party should continue with Sali Berisha still as leader.
Alimehmeti did not speak specifically about the president, but said that a reorganization is needed for the DP to be prepared for the elections in 2027.
"Candidates are ultimately personal, someone shows up and runs. All mandates end from the lowest to the highest level. Whether or not someone runs again depends on their conviction and political project, then voting and self-confidence are another matter."
"Where will we be? If we don't do the reorganization, we won't go into those elections prepared, and I have my eyes on 2027, so that this can serve as a starting point to have a more successful 2027 ," said Alimehmeti.
He also spoke about the early elections that will be held in several municipalities, which according to him will be announced very soon by President Begaj.
For Alimehmeti, the opposition will find it difficult to organize for these elections due to the short time, as he added that the entity in which he participates should be reorganized as soon as possible.
Alimehmeti also added that the opposition's objective should not be the chair but the success of the force.
"The real political race of the DP is 2027. Not that early elections are not important. But to do reorganization takes time. Bajrami Begaj waited so long and decrees elections and you are in the campaign for 45 days. Time is running out here.
All structures in April-May enter the voting process. There has been a division between the body in parliament and the body that organizes the political force. There should be a separate body that deals with reorganization. I don't think there will be an easy parliament these years.
"If we don't reorganize, we won't be prepared for the elections. The objective shouldn't be the seat, but the opportunity to have a chance of success," Alimehmeti said on A2 CNN.
