The Special Court of Appeal has refused to release Ilir Meta from the cell.
After a long session today, in the end, judge Igerta Hysi decided that the former president remains under the security measure "prison arrest".
The security measure "mandatory appearance" was also left in force for Monika Kryemadhi.
Meta and Kryemadhi appealed the decision of the First Instance, but the judge, after listening to the parties, decided not to change the security measures. Meta and Kryemadhi are accused of corruption, money laundering and hiding assets.
" The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a monocratic panel composed of judge Igerta Hysi, today on 19.11.2024, announced the decision on criminal case no. 60 act, registration date 11.11.2024, on the appeals of persons under IM and MK investigation, with object:
"Appeal against decision no. 125, dated 20.10.2024 and decision no. 130, dated 23.10.2024 of the Special Court of the First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime", which has disposed of cases of personal security measures, and decided:
- Approval of decision no. 125, dated 20.10.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, verified by decision no. 130, dated 23.10.2024 of the same court, for the part appealed by the persons under investigation IM and JK ", announces the Appeal of GJKKO.

As far as the hearing is concerned, Ilir Meta considers the accusations of non-declaration of assets tendentious, since according to the former Head of State, the former wife Monika Kryemadhi was taken by filling out the asset forms.
Meta emphasized that most of the properties and bank accounts belong to Monika Kryemadhi, adding that "I was in full faith that she did everything according to the law".
The former President of the country stated that he is not responsible for the expenses of family members, including his ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law.
" Regarding the claims for non-declaration of expenses, I consider them completely tendentious. First, I cannot be held responsible for any expenses or reductions in the accounts of my family members or even of my ex-wife and ex-mother-in-law.
Secondly, as I explained in SPAK, filling out the property forms was handled by my ex-wife, who followed all the actions with a lawyer and a notary, also for the reason that most of the properties and therefore the bank accounts were hers and she followed them. I had full faith that she did everything according to the law.
I have never refused as an individual to make the declaration according to Article 5 of the ILDKPI. Likewise, according to Article 22 of the ILDKPI, I am not responsible for the declaration of family members, and likewise, I have never had, according to Article 32, neither a notice nor a fine, neither from the ILDKPI nor from Taxes.
In conclusion Madam Judge, after these explanations I gave you, I ask you to respect the Constitution, the European Convention of Human Rights, the principle of presumption of innocence and a regular legal process for the future, with today's decision . says Ilir Meta.
He further clarified the relationship with the Albanian-American businessman, Adrian Shatku, whose name appeared in the investigation file of SPAK. Meta said that Adrian Shatkun, Monika Kryemadhi's cousin, had cooled the relationship because he doubted his seriousness. Meta even says that he warned his relatives.
" Regarding LSI's relations with two other lobbying companies presented by the Albanian-American, Adrian Shatku, every decision and authorization issued by me for these relations has been in extreme respect of Albanian and American laws.
If there are illegal actions by this person or anyone else, SPAK should bring them to criminal responsibility in Albania or the USA in cooperation with American justice.
I want to clarify that I have never benefited from this person except for the acquaintance we had because of his Dibra origin and the friendships he had with my relatives for this reason.
As I have stated in SPAK for a long time, I had doubted his seriousness and cooled the relations with him and for this I had warned my relatives, but also my colleagues, who had close contacts with him ", said Meta. / Pamphlet
