The sixth consecutive opposition rostrum is held...
The Democrats gathered again this evening in front of the Prime Minister's Office, holding another rally in front of the government building. Hundreds of citizens are demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, including the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.
This scenario began after what the DP calls a blockade in the Parliament. The opposition has requested investigative committees, interpellations or motions with debate, but has been rejected. For this reason, the Parliament has been moved to the Prime Minister's Office where every Monday representatives of the party speak, but not only.
This is the opposition's sixth consecutive rally, while a week ago the DP organized its first national protest after the May 11 elections.
The protest was opened by a citizen from Vlora, Mario Runa, who expressed deep indignation about the situation in his city, which according to him has been without water supply for five days.
He described this as a consequence of the "incompetence of government officials," emphasizing that such problems are in stark contrast to the government's discourse on European integration.
" I am Mario Runa from the city of Vlora. Today is the fifth day that Vlora has been without water, not because there is no water, but because of the incompetence and greed of our governors, which knows no bounds. They talk to us about Europe and how we will go to Europe, while the city of Vlora remains without water and this is not the first time. There are several times that the city is left without water supply. I do not know of any country in Europe where a city remains without water. Having water 24 hours a day, having electricity 24 hours a day and having functional roads are obligations of the government, because at the end of the day, these services are realized with our taxes ," he said.
Doctor Ilirjana Agolli, in her speech from the Democratic Party podium, raised a strong accusation against corruption in government and the dire state of the health system in the country.
" And what greater tragedy could there be than a health system too weak to care for its people. Hospitals without resources, clinics without organization, doctors differentiated and without support, patients without service, without opportunities, without medicines. In times of illness, citizens should find comfort and healing. Instead, they find empty promises, long lines, deterioration and despair. A corrupt government and a broken health system together form an alliance that abandons the vulnerable and silences voices ," she said.
The DP has warned that the rallies will continue next year. Meanwhile, January will be very busy, as the Constitutional Court will make a decision on Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, but the Assembly will also make a decision on her immunity.
