Former MP Ronald Bejko said that Albania is closer to Europe today, but the path towards integration remains difficult.
While speaking about the situation within the Democratic Party, Bejko said that he had never imagined reaching this point, adding that he sees the party "stripped of its structures" and taken hostage.
Bejko emphasized that, although the former December students toppled the monument to Enver Hoxha and the communist regime, in politics, unbroken myths still remain, such as Sali Berisha in the DP and Edi Rama in the SP.
He warned that the lack of elite rotation in the DP has led the party to a dramatic situation, comparing Berisha's current role to that of Ramiz Alija at the end of the regime.
"Albania today before Europe. The path towards integration, not easy. I do not believe that the DP would reach this stage, for the first time I see the DP behind the structures and taken hostage. Today we will deal with the former students of December. We have demolished the monument of Enver Hoxha, the communist regime, but we have not demolished the myths in the DP, Sali Berisha and in the SP Edi Rama.
The DP could not be at all. This makes the situation dramatic, because if there were changes in the elites, it would be much different. The SP has made some changes in the elites, there has been a rotation of the elites, in the DP there has not been a change in the elites. I see Sali Berisha today in the place of Ramiz Alias , "Bejko told "Abc News".
