Former MP Enkelejd Alibeaj analyzed the situation in the Democratic Party and the movement of Ervin Salianjaj that has disturbed the situation within the party. Invited to Report TV, the former Democratic MP goes back in time, initially remembering that this group that is today against Berisha, was the group that in 2021 supported him and helped him return the quotas within the party and lead it to the state it is in today.
"These individuals are not few from what I have seen, they demand that what is called the DP today, does not continue to decline more and more as shown by the election results but also by many of the positions they have held during this period. True, but I must also affirm the other fact, the individuals who make up this movement were those who, 4 years ago, when a clash occurred in the DP between two antagonistic sides. From the first political moment that they demanded the same things against the one who is the leader of the DP, Berisha, over time they switched to Berisha's side and support him. They contributed to him getting the quotas within the DP and bringing the situation to this state where it is today, as they claim a party without meritocracy, a subject that has moved away from the expectation it had of coming to government", Alibeaj emphasizes for "Report TV".
The former lawmaker says the reason why the DP has degraded to the point it is today is the Berisha model that prevails in the party. He says the DP is Berisha's private party, where no one is held accountable for the defeat and survival depends on flirting with the ruling party.
"I have not seen a platform, or some positions, or some theses that these individuals will have to hold. According to my imagination, the main cause of this situation where the DP has degraded is only one, the model of Berishism that prevails in the party, the model that the party is private property, that no one is held accountable even though occasional losses occur, the model where the cycle of young people has stalled, the model where the survival of a party entity continues to be guaranteed by flirtations with the government, transforming into a party controlled by the government. I am left to conclude that internal movements are movements for the repositioning of individuals in the party hierarchy with the idea that in the next elections they will be at the mercy of Berisha so that he can appoint them as MPs in the future. I don't want to play Cassandra, but this is what I see so far", continued Alibeaj.
For Berisha, he says that the only thing he cares about is maintaining the "status quo" and not being challenged by any new political movement. However, he does not seem so optimistic about Ervin Salianj's movement, which he sees so far simply as a move to reposition himself in the party hierarchy with the hope of being included in the lists of deputies in the next elections.
"By learning lessons from the past, Berisha did nothing but cut off the cat's head from the beginning, I don't know if he succeeded or not, but Berisha's nervousness is also visible in this position of his. That party, private, for private interests, detached from what it should be, starting from the moment it was born 35 years ago, is going into an endless decline," said Berisha.
However, he proposes to Salijanj to look beyond the PD fence and reach out to the gray electorate, as he predicts the political end of the PD with the political end of Berisha.
"We are talking about a private party of Berisha, which will apparently have its end together with the political end of Berisha. In the current situation of the country, where more and more new political commitments are required, it is appropriate not to look only within the PD fence, but to go public, the largest vote pool today is the Albanian public unrepresented by either Rama or Berisha. This is a great public service being done to Albania", emphasizes Alibeaj.
He is critical not only of the DP, but also of Edi Rama's Socialist Party. For both political entities, he says that the end of the political cycle is coming and bases this on two arguments: The self-rejection of Albanians to vote for them and the attacks of SPAK on both the left and the right.
"It is not only an end to the DP cycle, but an end as a political cycle including the SP. There are clear symptoms that two elements are hitting this political caste. The first, the natural, delayed self-rejection of Albanians. It is also the frontal blow that the justice system is giving this political caste due to government corruption. The justice segment that targets government corruption has affected, is affecting and will affect all the historical leaders of both subjects. Since they are two subjects that have been taught in an authoritarian manner, hitting the dome of one or the other will bring about the disintegration of this political class ," Alibeaj concluded.
