"The PD needs a new elite", Sejamini: You cannot win with Basha's directors and Berisha's loyalists

Neritan Sejamini spoke about the political elite in the Democratic Party, which is not renewed and mainly consists of loyalists of Sali Berisha and some of the directors of the departments left by Lulzim Basha.

Invited to the show "The Unexposed", Sejamini said that the DP must change its elite, if it will have any chance for the 2025 parliamentary elections.

He added that PD must go through these processes, to change, to go to 2025 with a new, more capable, charismatic political elite.

" After the departure of Mr. Berisha as the chairman of the DP, Mr. Basha made a total change after the 2017 elections, of the senior leaders of the DP. He created departments, secretariats. Today he continues with this type of structure. Mr. Basha, since the parliamentary group was the old group, took the second-level bureaucrats of the Berisha government and appointed them to these departments. With this party, they tried to make an opposition for eight years. This kind of renewal did not bring anything new. They were young, but they did not bring new ideas , charisma. The same scheme was created, the absolute power of the chairman and all others who serve him.

Mr. Berisha in 2005 had personalities in the party, such as Bode, Ruli, Topalli, Mustafaj, Olldashi, who were very important figures, while from 2013 they were their directors, their spokespersons. They could not become politicians. Basha could not modernize the party, he could not break away from the problems of the past. This party we have today is not Mr. Berisha's choice, some left, some stayed. This team is more about effort than a team that emerged from democratic processes.

DP lacks openness, internal competition. Mr. Basha's elite ended, but even Mr. Berisha did not create a new elite. The elite that PD has today was determined by the position they took in the internal debate. Those who had courage and were loyal to Berisha were rewarded with posts. Now the PD must go through these processes, to change, to go to 2025 with a new, more capable, charismatic political elite ," said Sejamini.
