The DP holds its third national protest this year...
The Democratic Party protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office has begun. Although the official time was set for 6:00 PM, the rally started a little late.
This is the third national protest of 2026, following the rallies of January 24 and February 10. The DP is demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his deputy Belinda Balluku, as well as the creation of a caretaker government that will prepare early elections.
The police have set up the first cordon in front of the government building, with officers positioned in a single line. In total, over 1,300 police forces have been mobilized, including units of the National Police, the Eagles, and water cannons, equipped with gas masks.
Earlier, Tirana Police announced that they would not take over the development of the rally due to fear of the Molotov cocktails that were used in the last two protests.
According to the authorities, due to the assessment of the risk of possible acts of violence following incidents recorded in previous protests, where masked individuals threw Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnics, no official approval was given for the rally to take place.
However, Police structures will be on the ground to guarantee public order and safety.
The protests of January 24 and February 10 were different from the others. Members of the crowd threw dozens of Molotov cocktails at the Prime Minister's Office building, causing flames and smoke in front of its entrance.
The crowd then moved towards the Parliament building. Even there, the situation did not remain calm. The crowd attempted to break the police cordon, there were physical clashes, and intervention with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters.
The signs are that a similar situation could occur today. The police have been put on alert, with officers armored in institutions, while water tankers are also on standby.
