"Alliances have damaged the Democratic Party", Murrizi: The entourage

Former Democratic Party MP Myslim Murrizi has harshly criticized the electoral system and the way the opposition functions in Albania, directly accusing the Democratic Party.

Murrizi categorically spoke out against pre-election coalitions, which, according to him, have weakened the Democratic Party since 2001 and have diverted its votes towards political opponents through internal agreements.

"Who should we be in coalition with? With Shpëtim Idrizi and Mesila Doda? Who have received three mandates from the DP but are pooling their votes with Rama. With whom? With the LSI, which has no connection to the center-right. With Tik Lapaj? I am categorically against it!", declared Murrizi.

The former MP also said that the constitutional amendments of April 2008, approved by Sali Berisha and Edi Rama, produced an electoral system that undermines the sovereignty of the vote and favors agreements between major parties.

"Albania needs an electoral zone. I have opened the lists, which closed the electoral code and to their shame closed 1/3, saying that it is the decision of the Constitutional Court, which had no comma from the decision to close 1/3. If Albania will have the Kosovo electoral system, Rama is not in power," he said for "A2 CNN".

Regarding the protests, Murrizi said he will be part of any rally against the government, but stressed that political change is achieved through voting and reforming the system, and not just through street protests.

He also called for an internal reorganization of the opposition and a change of figures surrounding the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.

"We need a different approach to citizens and not people that no one loves and no one voted for. The entourage surrounding Berisha should have been removed an hour ago," Murrizi declared.
