Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke during the International Conference on Governance held in Tirana.
During his speech, Rama emphasized that exporting democracy is not a good idea and stressed that if we do it, we will harm ourselves.
Among other things, Rama stated that the West has become boring, as according to him it only gives lectures.
The head of government emphasized that a good model for society must be created based on what is freely chosen.
"Exporting democracy is not a good idea, that's what I can say from my point of view. Anyone who thinks that this is going too far, I think, the idea of exporting democracy, those who have had this idea have made crazy mistakes. Exporting your model brings harm to yourself, in our case we are not able to export the model and adapt it, big countries have done this.
But even if we think about doing it, we harm ourselves, because we are faced with good things.
We must create a good model for our society based on what we have freely chosen.
This cannot make us prejudice other countries, look at the countries of the Middle East, how can we prejudice them because they do not have the same system, we should not do that, but we should respect them and learn from them, and they should learn from us.
But, we shouldn't base our relationships on how much others like us.
"I believe that in the West, a kind of boring thing has become where others just give lectures, talk about democracy, versus autocracy. Who are we to decide how the world should function," Rama said.
