Floods in Vlora, democracy: Proof of the state's total incompetence, no one

The flood situation in the Vlora region remains alarming, while the Vjosa River has overflowed its banks, causing significant damage.

In a reaction to the situation, the chairman of the Democratic Party for Vlora, Hysni Sharra, accused the government of long-term negligence and mismanagement of the crisis, emphasizing that the cause is not just a natural phenomenon.

Speaking about the situation, Sharra highlighted the ironic paradox of Vlora, which just a few weeks ago was suffering from a severe shortage of drinking water, while today it is facing massive flooding. According to him, this demonstrates a total lack of planning and strategic investment in infrastructure.

The Vlora chief democrat harshly criticized the area's MP, Vullnet Sinaj, who, according to him, instead of addressing the current crisis, tried to shift responsibility by blaming a road project built 13 years ago by the previous government.

In a sarcastic tone, Sharra described the situation as part of an “international conspiracy” against Prime Minister Rama.

"Greek chauvinists sent more water to Vjosa, Yugoslav chauvinists to the Black Drin, and Albin Kurti even filled the White Drin with water," he declared to "Syri TV".

Beyond the irony, Sharra described a harsh reality on the ground. The Democrat indicated that emergency interventions on the Mifoli bridge and embankment were delayed and insufficient.

According to him, the works that were supposed to be carried out during the summer, when the water level was low, were hastily attempted during the height of the crisis, which resulted in the breach of the embankment near the village of Bishan, describing the situation there as "catastrophic."

He called the prime minister's statement that the cause of the floods was plastic bottles in the rivers a "mockery."

Sharra emphasized that while environmental cleaning is essential, it is impossible for urban waste to cause a catastrophe of such magnitude, considering this a national problem that requires serious solutions and not excuses.

"As evidence of the state's lack of support, there is the case of the damage to the road connecting the villages of Bashaj and Matogjin in the Municipality of Selenica, where residents were forced to organize themselves with their own emergency vehicles to repair the blocked road ," said Sharra.

He stressed that this is not the first time the area has faced such floods, recalling the severe situations of 2014 and 2017, which show a recurring pattern of authorities' failure to take preventive measures.
