Former Minister of Finance, Arben Malaj, has commented on the internal debates in the Socialist Party following the clash between party leader, Edi Rama, and MP Elisa Spiropali.
According to him, Spiropali's future should not be decided by what Rama will do with him, but rather by leaving the parliamentary group to bring something new and hopeful.
"We are in a political leadership crisis, the Socialist Party is heading towards the fate of PASOK, it will disintegrate, it will reach its lowest point and this will be the responsibility of those who have blind faith in the leader. Rotations have occurred when the ruling party has split, so it has also happened in the Albanian rotation.
"I understand one thing about Spiropal, Rama will not rush to exclude him because he will not give him time to organize, this is Spiropal's challenge, will he come forward like the leader did in Hungary or will he wait," Malaj told Euronews Albania.
Former Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali appears to have crossed the party's red line with harsh public criticism through several posts on social media, boundaries that Prime Minister Rama made clear to her at the April 27 meeting of the socialist group and ministers.
The first major crisis occurred when Spiropali broke party orders and did not participate in the vote on Belinda Balluku's immunity.
"The first time you didn't come to vote, the second time you made a mistake. There's no third time, you're out of this group. You're still here, because I don't want the SP to lose the investment it has made, but take a deep breath and understand what you've done," Rama told him.
