Ervin Salianji has reacted after his candidacy for chairman of the Democratic Party was not accepted, describing the decision as an unprecedented act in political history.
In a Facebook post, he emphasizes that the rejection of candidacy documents is not simply a procedural issue, but according to him, it shows that the party is being treated as personal property.
" The Democratic Party is the property of Albanians. It cannot be private property. Today an act unheard of in political history was committed: the refusal to accept the candidacy documents for the presidency of the Democratic Party."
"This is not just a procedural decision. It is the clearest proof that the Democratic Party is being treated as personal property and not as a public asset built with sacrifice by thousands of democrats ," says Salianji.
He adds that banning the competition does not protect the party, but narrow interests, while emphasizing that his request was for an open vote and competition.
" When the competition is banned, the party is not protected, but the narrow interests of a group that is only afraid are protected: afraid of the vote, afraid of justice, afraid of the past. I did not ask for privileges. I asked for the competition. I did not ask for an appointment ," he adds.
Salianji describes this decision as a rejection not only of him, but of every democrat who believes in a competitive party, calling the situation a "usurpation of functions."
" I asked for votes. This is democracy and only in this way can the Democratic Party return victorious! This is not a rejection of me, but it is a rejection of every democrat who believes that this party should be open, competitive and winning. It is practically a usurpation of functions! This is a battle for principle, not for position. And this battle does not end today. Because the Democratic Party is bigger than any individual who tries to hold it hostage ," he concludes.
