Clashes with Kurti, Rama's old obsession!

Official Tirana speaks when it should be silent, remains silent when it should support...

The clash between Edi Rama and Albin Kurti has resumed today at a distance, ahead of the protest to be held in Tirana against the Special Court and the process taking place in The Hague against former KLA leaders. The Albanian Prime Minister has supported this protest, but not without reigniting old fires with his Kosovar counterpart.

The Vetëvendosje Movement reacted sharply, reminding Rama that he was one of the most active politicians in promoting and supporting the establishment of the Special Court. They recalled that in 2015, Rama even traveled by helicopter to Kosovo to convince political leaders to vote for its creation.

This clash is not new. Rama's political history with Kosovar leaders is fraught with confrontations whenever they have not obeyed his line. Ramush Haradinaj was put on trial. Vjosa Osmani ignored him. He called Isa Mustafa "devious". Hashim Thaçi was publicly flogged when he rejected the Open Balkans. Now, it is Kurti's turn again.

This behavior of Rama is not spontaneous. It follows a well-known pattern: he benefits politically whenever Pristina's leaders face a crisis or challenge. When there were tensions in the north, Rama came out every day with statements that attacked the Kurti government and tried to sell himself as pro-American. When the Open Balkans began to fade, he remained silent. Now that Kurti is in trouble, Rama has gone on the offensive again.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo is at a delicate moment. Relations with the US are cold. The future coalition remains unclear. And as usual, instead of official Tirana showing prudence, Rama chooses to interfere and point the finger of accusation.

The new clash at a distance, with words and symbols, is simply the latest manifestation of Rama's ambition to control narratives in Kosovo. Even when it's none of his business.

Every Kurti crisis surprisingly brings a new attack from Rama. From tensions in the north, to clashes over the Open Balkans or decisions of the Constitutional Court, he appears to strike precisely when Pristina is under pressure. This is no coincidence. It is part of a paternalistic model, where Tirana wants Pristina's leaders under control or out of the picture.

Rama sees himself as the only clock that should show the direction of the Albanian nation. Anyone who does not recognize his authority is labeled as irresponsible, an obstacle, or a peripheral figure. But Kosovo is not the periphery of Albania, and its leaders are not Rama's servants.

What Albania-Kosovo cooperation needs today is not jokes or protagonism, but respect, prudence and coordination. Tomorrow's protest deserves support, but not appropriation by any politician who yesterday lobbied for the Special Court and today appears as a lawyer for the KLA. / Pamphlet
