The Chairwoman of the Committee for Culture, Tourism and Diaspora and also a member of parliament from the Democratic Party, Ina Zhupa, has reacted to the situation of the Skorana Gorge.
She has accused the government of allowing the degradation of one of the most popular natural areas near Tirana.
Through a video published on social media, Zhupa states that the area has been damaged by the dumping of inert materials and the uncontrolled activity of construction companies, while demanding an investigation into the case and bringing those responsible to justice.
"Even the Erzeni Canyon was massacred. The Rama government is burying another natural gem of Tirana. This video shows an environmental crime that cannot be hidden with propaganda. The Skorana Gorge, one of Tirana's most beautiful natural destinations, has been destroyed by the dumping of inert materials and the uncontrolled activity of construction companies. Where families, young people and tourists once enjoyed the nature and waters of Erzeni, today only destruction remains ," she said.
The DP MP described the situation as a result of misgovernance and not natural factors, demanding a reaction from the institutions.
"This is not a natural disaster, but a consequence of a government that has abandoned environmental protection and has chosen to serve the interests of its clients. Those responsible must be investigated and brought to justice, and laws and controls must be strengthened to protect our natural resources," said Zhupa.
The MP also criticized the way the government promotes tourism while allowing damage to natural areas.
"Albania cannot continue to lose its pearls one by one, while the government sells propaganda about tourism, but allows the destruction of the very nature that makes this country unique. What kind of tourism are we going to talk about in Tirana?! Construction tourism, concrete tourism?" she said.
