The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a press conference, commented on the February 10 protest organized by the opposition, stating that the civic reaction will continue and, according to him, will be even stronger in the coming days.
Berisha said that during the protest there were orders to arrest young people, but stressed that this will not dampen participation in future rallies.
"The order was to arrest young people, but I assure you that the next protest will be twice as many young people. The anger of young people is boundless ," he said.
According to him, the protest has been called for the opposition and the democrats, while underlining that its strength does not lie in violence.
"Our strength is not violence. We terrorize. This is a peaceful uprising ," Berisha declared, adding that the protesters are not going to shoot police officers, but to express their anger at the prime minister and the government.
During his speech, Berisha directly accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of, as he put it, using violence against protesters. He claimed that several citizens were shot in the head during the protest, mentioning by name Ilir Tushi, Dem Dollapi and Luan Lleshi, as well as a lady who, according to him, was wounded in the arm.
"These three were hit in the head, all three might not be here today," he said.
Berisha added that the protesters do not intend to clash with police officers, distinguishing between, as he said, "ordinary police officers" and the people he considered responsible for acts of violence. "We did not see a single injured police officer, neither wounded nor scratched. The protesters do not seek violence," he said.
In conclusion, the DP leader described the situation as a political "battlefield" and declared that the opposition will win this confrontation. "We have won every battle we have started, now we will win the war ," Berisha said.
