The Territorial Reform Commission met today to continue reviewing the changes foreseen within the reform process.

The co-chair of the committee, Damian Gjiknuri, stated that the institutions must fulfill the obligations set by the European Commission. He emphasized that the majority has the necessary votes to approve the law, but aims to move the process forward in cooperation with the opposition.

According to him, even though the draft law requires 71 votes and the Socialist Party has them, the majority wants to address the issue through political agreement. Gjiknuri added that the commission will guarantee transparency of funds for all parties, considering this an essential element in the function of political competition.

"The tasks given to us by the European Commission must be fulfilled. Despite the fact that the draft of political parties requires 71 votes, the majority has said in its speech that we want to treat this law in a consensual manner. There will be transparency for the funds for all parties. Beyond political tensions, this is necessary, as there will be competition between parties," he said.

The meeting took place in a climate of political tension, while the parties are expected to continue discussions on the draft in the coming days.
