Sali Berisha and leaders of opposition parties are expected to discuss the opposition action on January 9th, at a roundtable called by the Democrats.
It is expected that this roundtable will discuss and decide not only on the date of the second national protest, but also the interaction between all actors and factors considered as opposition.
Berisha has floated the idea of creating a broad opposition front, inviting not only political entities, but also members of civil society and organizations that do not align with what the democratic leader considers to be "Rama's regime."
A day earlier, during a media conference, Berisha said that the opposition will not stop at any form of protests, while emphasizing that the next national protest against Edi Rama will be held before February 20.
Berisha said that the goal of the protests is to overthrow the government and prepare for early elections by a caretaker government.
And while he has called a meeting with the opposition to set a date for the protest, it seems that the democratic leader has set a date that he is expected to propose to his allies.
Sources from the DP confirm that the Democrats will propose January 24 as the date for calling citizens to protest. If this date is accepted, then the opposition parties will have almost two weeks to prepare the protest, which is not known whether it will be in the format of the first protest, or will be extended in time. The idea according to the Democrats is that if the second protest is confirmed to be held on January 24, the next one will be held on February 20, a date that coincides with the 35th anniversary of the fall of the bust of Enver Hoxha.
The first national protest called by the Democrats lasted no more than 150 minutes, and it is not known whether it will continue with such formats, where people are called to protest and then disperse, or whether resistance will be required.
However, it is expected that the January 9 roundtable will determine not only the date, but also the format of the protest. The roundtable has been rejected by Arlind Qori of the Lëvizjes Bashkë, while Agron Shehaj's Mundësia has not given a clear reaction on whether or not he will be part of the roundtable. Meanwhile, Adriatik Lapaj of Shqipëria Bëhet is expected to support the protests, but not the roundtables with party formats.
