Former Democratic Party MP, Flutura Açka, spoke about the political situation in the country, analyzing the opposition protests and the future of the Democratic Party.
According to her, the common objective of the opposition is the removal of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the creation of a transitional government, but the opposition forces are not united.
Açka stressed that Albanian society is experiencing a “depressive phase” after the expected political losses and the lack of perspective for the country’s leadership. She criticized the political elite for their silence on abuses and corruption, underlining that the deputy prime minister should resign, to free the system and maintain European standards in politics.
The former MP also focused on the role of the Democratic Party, noting that the lack of reflection and internal cleansing has created a vacuum that has weakened the opposition. She criticized the way the DP has treated new parties and how figures such as Adriatik Lapaj have faced obstacles in their protests.
“ Protests are not just for individuals, but for citizens, to punish corruption and create a winning opposition ,” Açka told “A2CNN.” She added that only by starting with oneself and reforming the DP can there be a real chance for political change.
Açka stressed that 2026 will be a crucial year for Albanian democracy, with domestic and international pressure on the government, and that the opposition should seize every opportunity to unite and guarantee a fair and transparent political process.
