Gonzato meets Braho, gives him support in the fight against crime and corruption
Internationals demand that SPAK continue its anti-corruption crackdowns without stopping, despite changes in its leadership.
The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, held his first official meeting with Klodian Braho, congratulating him on taking office and asking him for concrete results, especially in investigations affecting the highest levels of power and organized crime.
He underlined that the European Union is fully committed to supporting SPAK and the rule of law in Albania.
“ First meeting with the new President of SPAK, Klodian Braho. I congratulated him on SPAK’s achievements to date and stressed the importance of continuing to deliver tangible results in the fight against organized crime and corruption, a key element for Albania’s progress towards membership in the European Union. Strengthening investigative capacities and ensuring high standards in investigations and prosecutions are crucial for consolidating progress and achieving sustainable results. The European Union remains fully committed to supporting SPAK and the rule of law in Albania ”, said Gonzato.
Klodjan Braho, elected head of SPAK at a delicate time for the credibility of the justice reform, now has a clear mission ahead: to prevent the Special Prosecution Office from turning into an institution that punishes the little ones and spares the big ones. In his statements, Braho has promised to continue investigations without political influence and to consolidate institutional independence.
The Gonzato-Braho meeting is considered a political message from the EU to the Albanian political class: the times of impunity are ending. European diplomacy no longer requires only reforms on paper, but real strikes against those with power, connections to crime, unjustified wealth and influence over institutions.
At the end of the meeting, the European ambassador reiterated that support for SPAK will continue in concrete forms, through technical assistance, training and cooperation with EU law enforcement agencies. / Pamphlet
