Berisha does not believe what Salianji declares, just as he cannot accept being challenged at a moment when he had decided to maintain the "status-quo", at least until the spring of 2026...
Ervin Salianji has stirred up trouble in the Democratic Party. He has launched a 'Speaker' with the Democrats, in the name of what he considers a renewal of the DP and a unity of the Democrats to defeat Edi Rama. On the other hand, Sali Berisha, the leader of the DP, has rushed to label Salianji's movement as a personal agenda, inciting accusations and attacks on the other side against the member of the DP Presidency.
And with the way he is behaving towards a movement that anyone in the DP could undertake, it seems that Berisha intends to create a clash with Salianji and anyone who currently stands by him. It seems that this game of Berisha has caused the protagonists of the movement to appear in the media and clarify that they are not aiming for division, nor the post of mayor, but are gathering the opinion of the democrats on how to strengthen the DP.
In fact, whatever Salianji, Alimehmeti, Kalaja and anyone else in the movement declare, Berisha has made up his mind that he will treat them as insurgents and 'Foltoren' as an insurgency.
This is due to the simple fact that Salianji and those who support him are the first to dare to undertake a movement in the party controlled by Berisha, and to exploit the apathy of those who the leader of the DP has on his side, but also the dissatisfaction created not only by the loss of the next one, but also the arrogance shown by the leadership of this party. They are the first to challenge Berisha from the moment he took the seal and logo in his hand and who 'kneeled' in the name of unity in diversity all those who resisted him for months, waving the title of "non grata" in front of his eyes.
It is enough for Berisha to call those from the Salianji movement traitors, which has begun to be articulated in various forms. And it seems that for Berisha every change is a "conspiracy" and every request for reform is an "attempt at division". For 3 years, Berisha began to rebuild the 'myth' that was trampled upon with those clashes he had with Lulzim Basha's group, while today he is facing one of those protagonists from 4 years ago, but who once stood by the side of the former leader of the DP.
And this could be another reason why Berisha could increase the doses of attacks on Salianja, since in the entire history of the DP, it has never happened to him to be challenged twice by the same character.
Berisha does not believe what Salianji declares, just as he cannot accept being challenged at a moment when he had decided to maintain the "status-quo", at least until the spring of 2026.
Since December 2021, when he initiated what he called at the time the Re-establishment Assembly, Berisha has managed to turn the entire DP into a personal armory. This is the reason why he did not make any moves in the entire DP dome, while successfully using the argument that 'now we have to deal with electoral manipulation' and then we will analyze the loss.
And those who will do the analysis are the same ones who are in the leadership of the DP today, who is more or less responsible for the loss.
Based on this, Salianji decided to undertake a tour, a movement, exploiting precisely the weak point, the disregard of those who, just a few months ago, were being promoted as new figures, or as the most voted in the primaries.
The Salianji movement in relation to Sali Berisha cannot be treated as a personal rift. Salianji has never been among Berisha's favorites, and in fact, in the only race he participated in, that of the leader of the FRPD in 2015, the current leader of the DP, along with the entourage he controlled, was against him.
Today, Salianji and those on his side are articulating that the DP cannot win against Rama if it does not receive support beyond the membership or supporters of the opposition, in other words the “gray” electorate. And here Berisha is not the solution. In this sense, Salianji’s move is logical, as long as it is being articulated that the opening of the DP towards new figures and the creation of a broader communication with the citizens is a necessity.
But all this transforms Berisha from a strong leader, into a symbolic leader, or honorary chairman. And of course Berisha's reaction was expected. He cannot tolerate anyone moving outside his orbit, especially in a party that he re-joined after a war with the one he considered his "political son".
In all developments in the DP, Berisha has given emotional, but not political, responses, while Salianji seeks institutional responses. And this is why what is happening today in the DP could turn into a non-temporary conflict. /Pamphlet/
