"Rama's governance as a colonial system", Berisha: Pension bonus
Sali Berisha

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, described the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama as "a colonial system," while accusing the majority of unfair distribution of income and mismanagement of public funds.

The statements were made during a roundtable for pensioners, organized by the Department of Economy at the Democratic Party.

In his speech, Berisha criticized the bonus for pensioners, saying that its value is negligible compared to the cost of living.

"A month ago, Edi Rama said 'Eureka'. And what was Eureka? It was Eureka 8 euros. What he says is a pension bonus, 8 euros. 8 euros, two kilograms of tomatoes," said Berisha.

According to the opposition leader, pensioners have been left in difficult economic conditions and cannot even afford basic expenses, including medicines.

Berisha stated that the government talks about economic growth, while according to him, the distribution of income remains “barbaric.” He claimed that a very small portion of citizens own the majority of bank savings in the country.

"93% of savings in Albanian banks today are held by 12,000 Albanians," he said.

The DP leader compared governance to colonial systems, claiming that “plunder of public assets” is occurring in Albania. He cited the high costs of road infrastructure, the incinerator issue, and the Tirana wastewater plant project as examples of mismanagement and corruption.

According to Berisha, public funds and state properties are being misused in favor of groups connected to power.

His statements come during a period of political debate over pension levels, price increases and the government's social policies.

Sali Berisha:  The reward, this was the reward that those who built Albania, who sacrificed, who shed rivers of sweat, who maintained education, maintained healthcare, who built, that, all in a row, received from this government. And suddenly, unaccountably, they find themselves excluded in a cruel way from society, underpaid to the most extreme degree. A month ago, Edi Rama said Eureka. And what was Eureka? It was Eureka 8 euros. What he says, a pension bonus, 8 euros. 8 euros, two kilograms of tomatoes. 8 euros, 13 years ago could have been 20 kilograms of tomatoes. Let's not talk about medicines, they can't buy them. No. They are at the mercy of diseases. This is a crime. Absolutely. Meanwhile, he proudly boasts that he has a budget of 8 billion. 8 billion. Meanwhile, he talks about economic growth, 3%, 4%. It's a colonial system, because the economic growth there is yes, no, I'm not stopping to analyze the structure, but the distribution is colonial. The distribution of income is, it's barbaric.

What if you don't think of the citizens as the first beneficiaries of those revenues, as an absolute obligation for them to be the first to benefit. An extraordinary polarity has been created. Extraordinary. 93% of savings in Albanian banks are today held by 12,000 Albanians. There is no place like this. Then, all this, why is this a similar system, why does this Edi Rama government resemble a colonial system? It resembles, what were colonial systems in fact? Plunder. They were the plunder of public assets of the countries that were colonized. So what is happening in Albania? Plunder. Plunder is happening. Public funds are being plundered in an unimaginable way. 20 million euros per kilometer of highway in the field.

4 million euros per kilometer on the highway, Janinë - Kakavijë, on the other side of the border, 26 meters wide. What's going on? Looting, looting, endless looting. There is no nation robbed like this. The looting has reached extremes.
Public facility, public works 130 million euros, the incinerator does not exist, not a single brick, and the euros have been stolen. They have been stolen. 120 million dollars have been stolen from the Tirana sewage plant, a generous gift from the Japanese government. It disappeared. There have been no people who steal in this way. Looting. Looting, looting of public assets. Millions, millions of square meters of public land instead of being returned to the owners, compensating the legitimate owners, are being given to drug barons, family members of government officials. Looting.
